If they get the upper hand over you, they will become enemies to you; they will stretch out to you their hands and their tongues in evil, and they desire that you disbelieve.
Through this verse, the Three-Time Knower Lord Allah is clearly informing the real behavior and attitude of the hypocrites of every period towards the believers. That is, if the believers come under the control of the Fujjar, they will deal with the believers in enmity. They try their best to divert the believers from the Straightpath so that they will also become the inmates of Hell with the Fujjar. It is the inevitable duty of the Messenger and the believers to oppose, by mind, word, as well as by deed, the hypocrites from coming into ruling power. As explained in verse 4: 139, the hypocrites are seeking dignity near the disbelievers, arguing that even associating in the dominion of Allah is allowed for the spirit of communal unity. But the Messenger and the believers are commanded to pray with the soul the prayer told in verses 3: 26-27 in every dawn and dusk. As explained in verses 2: 255-256, none can become a believer except with Adhikr—the Permission. The Fujjar have read in the Arabic Qur’an the verses 13: 14 and 40: 50, that the prayer of the disbelievers doesn’t increase anything except astray. But by living here aimlessly and heedlessly, they are earning Hellfire as explained in verses 2: 285 and 9: 82. See explanation 3: 118-119; 9: 8-10; and 33: 60-61.
